Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) in Cape Town opens a new exhibition on 7 November 2026 that takes home as its subject, not as a fixed place but as a set of feelings that can pull in opposite directions. Titled my road was in between…, the show explores the tangled, often contradictory and sometimes difficult emotions people carry about where they belong.

The works on display emerged from a series of workshops held in 2024 and 2025 at the museum's BMW Centre for Art Education, giving the exhibition roots in a sustained process of making and conversation rather than a single moment of production. That workshop setting shapes the character of the show: it is presented as an education-led project, developed with participants over time, and concerned with how ideas of home are formed through shared experience.

Home is a recurring theme in contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora, where questions of migration, memory and return are rarely abstract. By framing belonging as something unresolved, the exhibition positions itself within that wider conversation while keeping its focus on the personal and the emotional rather than the monumental.

my road was in between… runs at Zeitz MOCAA from 7 November 2026 until 15 August 2027, a long run that gives the museum's education programme a central place in its galleries for much of the coming year. The extended dates suggest the museum sees the project as a substantial part of its programme rather than a short seasonal display.
