Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town opens the 2026 edition of its MOCAA Art Club exhibition on 7 November, handing its galleries over to the work of school learners. Titled As Below, So Above, the show presents work by grade 10 and 11 pupils from across the city, made in response to a deceptively simple question: what does it mean to know where you come from?

The learners were invited to explore how the places, people, memories and experiences that shape a person influence who they become. The theme gives the young artists wide scope, from family histories and neighbourhoods to the small details of daily life, and it also invites them to think about how identity is formed by the everyday experience of growing up in a city as layered as Cape Town. The exhibition is framed as a reflection on identity and belonging as lived by teenagers growing up in the city today.

The MOCAA Art Club is the museum's programme for school-age artists, and its annual exhibition has become a fixture of Zeitz MOCAA's calendar. Putting learners' work on the same walls as the museum's main programme signals the institution's commitment to art education and to treating young people's perspectives as a serious part of its curatorial conversation rather than a side activity.

As Below, So Above is on view at Zeitz MOCAA from 7 November 2026 until 28 February 2027, running through the southern hemisphere summer and into the new school year. Its long run gives the learners' work an extended audience and underlines the museum's investment in the next generation of artists from across the city.
