From a $625 pop silkscreen to a $6,900 steel splash: six gallery-priced works under $10,000
MutualArt's October 23 digest lines up six primary-market works from partner galleries, priced from $625 to $6,900, spanning a Tonalist seascape, a biennial sculptor's bridge maquette and a Sydney surrealist's mixed-media board.
Six works offered directly by galleries, rather than through auction rooms, anchor MutualArt's latest weekly digest for newer collectors, with published prices running from $625 to $6,900. Because every piece comes from a gallery's own inventory, the figures reflect each dealer's valuation of the artist instead of the push and pull of a saleroom, and the selection is deliberately broad: painting, sculpture and editioned print all appear.
The cheapest entry is a signed silkscreen by Olmo Rios, a Mexican artist born in 1994, whose cartoon-derived imagery carries an exasperated joke in its title alone. At the other end of the range sits a platinum-plated stainless steel sculpture by London-based Israeli-British artist Yoni Alter, freezing a paint-splash gesture into a reflective luxury object. Between them sits a large palette-knife canvas by Australian painter Jodie Wells, showing a galah against a warm peach ground, priced at $5,680.
The most institutionally weighty name is Serbian sculptor Mrdjan Bajic, who represented Serbia at the 2007 Venice Biennale and took part in the 2002 Sao Paulo Biennial. His contribution is a maquette in aluminium, steel and marble for a bridge project at Belgrade's Kalemegdan fortress park, a working model that preserves the thinking behind a public commission at a scale a private buyer can live with. American Tonalist Rachel Warner's small oil of Tomales Bay at dusk, offered through a San Francisco gallery, is listed at price on request.
The sixth work comes from Sydney multidisciplinary artist Catherin Bennett, whose mixed-media board sits at the top of her current price range while remaining under $2,000. Her inclusion keeps the digest's emerging end visible alongside the biennial veteran. As with all primary inventory, MutualArt notes that availability can shift quickly, and interested buyers are directed to inquire with the representing galleries for pricing and shipping.
