Cristina Iglesias Brings Her Water-Led Sculpture to Hauser & Wirth New York
Spanish sculptor Cristina Iglesias will open a solo exhibition at Hauser & Wirth New York on 5 November 2026, announced in a studio film that traces water through her practice as both a material and a way of thinking about time, memory and transformation.
Spanish sculptor Cristina Iglesias will open a solo exhibition at Hauser & Wirth New York on 5 November, the gallery has announced. The show was trailed in a short film shot at the artist's studio in Torrelodones, outside Madrid, for Ursula magazine's Material series, which looks at the physical matter of art-making.
In the film, water runs through Iglesias's practice in two ways at once: as a substance she builds with, and as a way of thinking about time, memory, transformation and the unseen. The feature, titled The Shape of Time, shows drawings inside the studio alongside details of works and maquettes from series including her submerged-room pieces and her Wells, grounding the new show in the ideas she has pursued from the start.
Iglesias is known for immersive, experiential environments that join architecture, literature and site-specific content, working across glass, steel and bronze as well as less conventional materials such as water and sound. Her sculptures often take the form of constructed spaces, passageways and latticed structures that blur the line between interior and exterior, and between the organic and the manufactured. Her work has been presented in more than 60 solo and group exhibitions around the world, alongside major public commissions.
The New York exhibition follows her recent outings with the gallery, and the announcement frames it as a solo presentation rather than a group hang. No title or closing date was given in the announcement itself, but the opening date is fixed: visitors can see the new show from 5 November at Hauser & Wirth New York.
