carlier | gebauer Madrid has announced Errar las formas, a solo exhibition by David Zink Yi that opens on Thursday 26 November 2026 with an evening event from 6 to 9 pm. The presentation marks the artist's first solo exhibition with the gallery and takes place at its Madrid space.

Zink Yi, who was born in Lima in 1973 and lives and works in Berlin, explores the body as a site of identity, memory and transformation. His practice moves across video, sculpture, ceramics, sound and performance, drawing on a heritage that spans Indigenous Peruvian, Chinese, Italian and German roots. The body, in his work, becomes the place where outward experience and inward feeling meet.

In recent years Zink Yi has worked extensively within the ceramic tradition, creating sculptural works inspired by natural forms such as molluscs and cephalopods. These creatures, elusive and rich in art-historical association, serve as a way of thinking about species, strangeness and transformation rather than as straightforward natural subjects. The Madrid show draws on that line of inquiry, with the announced work including a large pigment-impregnated cotton paper piece from 2025.

The exhibition adds a Madrid chapter to a career that has included solo presentations at museums and galleries across Europe and Latin America. For the gallery, which opened its Madrid space in 2019 alongside its Berlin base, the show continues a programme built around long-term collaborations with artists working across installation, film, photography, painting and drawing. Visitors to the Madrid space will be able to see how Zink Yi's interest in the body, ritual and material comes together in a focused solo presentation, with the opening evening offering a first chance to encounter the new works in person.
