Applications have opened for the 2027 Snowball Art Award, an international prize for professional artists presented by the Ann Wolff Foundation Gotland in collaboration with Kosta Boda. The award is primarily intended to support female artists from the Nordic region and internationally, and offers the selected artist a five-day residency and studio programme at Kosta Boda Glassworks in Sweden.

The residency, which will take place during 2027 on dates agreed with the artist, gives the winner the chance to develop their practice in a glassworks environment, working with industrial craft processes and skilled makers. Kosta Boda, one of Sweden's oldest glassworks, has a long history of hosting artists, and the programme is designed to give the winner direct access to its furnaces, workshops and technical staff. The award takes its name from the idea of momentum building over time, and is aimed at artists looking to push their work in a new direction through concentrated studio time.

Applications opened on 15 October and close on 26 November 2026. Artists are asked to send their application materials as a single combined PDF to the foundation, with the email subject reading Snowball Art Award 2027. The foundation says it will notify applicants of its decision no later than 15 January 2027.

The award ceremony will take place on 26 February 2027 in Visby, Sweden, coinciding with the 90th birthday of Ann Wolff, the artist and glassmaker after whom the foundation is named. The prize adds to a growing set of open calls aimed specifically at women artists, at a moment when residency programmes are increasingly seen as a practical form of support for mid-career practice.
