A make-up app for blind users wins the RCA's Helen Hamlyn Design Award 2026
Check My Look, an app by Hanming Xu that helps blind and visually impaired people apply make-up independently, has won the Royal College of Art's 2026 Helen Hamlyn Design Award.

The Royal College of Art has named Hanming Xu's Check My Look as winner of the 2026 Helen Hamlyn Design Award. The accessible mobile application uses computer vision and voice guidance to help blind and visually impaired people apply make-up independently and confidently — developed through co-design with blind and partially sighted users. The awards were presented at the RCA's Battersea campus on 10 September 2026, alongside two Fixperts awards recognising people-centred graduate design projects.
