Thaddaeus Ropac is presenting 'All Hail the Berlinian', an exhibition by Berlin-based artist Marc Brandenburg, at its Salzburg Villa Kast space. The show opened on 3 October and runs to 23 December 2026, and was announced by the gallery on Instagram ahead of its opening week. Brandenburg is known for highly detailed pencil drawings in which he documents everyday urban life while subtly registering the crises of the present. Working from his own photographs, he renders street scenes and incidental moments with a silvery, reflective graphite touch that lends ordinary motifs an otherworldly quality, like negatives of snapshots from a parallel world. His drawing process always begins with the camera: he takes the photographs himself, then translates them by hand into drawings where the quiet precision of the mark-making sits in tension with the unease of the subject matter. The finished sheets transform their source material into something stranger and more psychologically charged, inviting viewers to look twice at scenes they might otherwise pass without notice. The Salzburg presentation runs alongside 'Body Sign', a two-artist exhibition by VALIE EXPORT and Ketty La Rocca, which is on view at the same Villa Kast space over the same dates. The pairing places Brandenburg's meticulous draughtsmanship in dialogue with two pioneers of body-centred art. Thaddaeus Ropac's autumn programme spans its spaces in Salzburg, Paris, Milan and Seoul, with the Brandenburg show anchoring the Salzburg season through the end of the year. Villa Kast, the gallery's Salzburg venue, hosts the exhibition in the Austrian city where Ropac has long maintained a presence alongside its spaces in Paris, London and Seoul. The show's long run to 23 December gives visitors through the autumn and early winter to see Brandenburg's latest body of drawings.
