Taka Ishii Gallery Maebashi opens Haruki Ohno's exhibition Fishing Village / Symbol on Saturday 31 October 2026, with an opening reception from 6pm to 7pm. The show runs through 20 December 2026 and is presented in collaboration with the Maebashi Biennale 2026.

The biennale is the first edition of the festival, running for eighty days from 19 September to 20 December 2026 under the theme Mebuku. Where good things grow. Its exhibitions and events are spread across venues in the city centre, including Arts Maebashi, Maebashi Galleria, the Shiraiya Hotel and the Maebashi Literature Museum, with dozens of artists taking part. The festival is the first of its kind for the city, and its organisers have placed contemporary art in hotels, museums and shopping arcades as well as gallery spaces, aiming to draw visitors through the centre of Maebashi over the full eighty days.

Taka Ishii opened its Maebashi branch in 2023 as a space for collaborative projects with artists based in Japan and abroad. The Ohno exhibition is the gallery's second project linked to the biennale, following Small Architectures: Light, Void, and the City, which ran at the space from 19 September to 27 October.

The show arrives as the biennale enters its final stretch, and it runs to the festival's closing day on 20 December. For a branch that was set up to host exactly this kind of collaboration, the exhibition underlines how closely the gallery has tied its Maebashi programme to the city's new festival. For visitors, the Ohno show offers one more reason to return to Maebashi in the biennale's final weeks, when the festival's programme is at its fullest and the gallery's space is showing work made in direct dialogue with it.
