Firenze Lai makes UK debut at White Cube Mason's Yard during Frieze week
White Cube will present North and True North, Firenze Lai's first UK exhibition and inaugural show with the gallery, from 13 October to 14 November 2026 at Mason's Yard, London, with a preview on 13 October.
White Cube's Mason's Yard space in London will host the first UK exhibition by Firenze Lai, opening with a preview on 13 October 2026. Titled North and True North, the show runs until 14 November and marks the Hong Kong-born artist's inaugural presentation with the gallery, which she joined in July 2025. Lai will debut a group of new paintings made in her London studio over the past few years. The works take up questions of belonging, the corrosive effects of misinformation and the impossibility of pinning down a single source of truth. Her dreamlike images of anonymous figures and places move between the unconscious and contemporary life, with the entanglement of the digital woven through. The show is timed to coincide with Frieze London 2026, landing in the city's most concentrated week for the art world. For a newly signed artist, the Frieze-week slot is a clear statement of the gallery's ambition for her: Mason's Yard will carry the momentum of the fair audience into a focused solo presentation. Born in Hong Kong in 1984 and now based in London, Lai has built her reputation through institutions rather than the commercial circuit — her work has appeared at the Venice Biennale, M+, the Centre Pompidou and the New Museum. The White Cube debut converts that museum profile into a gallery footing, and the show will be closely watched as a measure of where her market goes next. Collectors encountering Lai for the first time in London will find a practice that translates complex questions about truth and belonging into quietly absorbing images — a combination the gallery is clearly betting will travel well with the Frieze-week audience.
