EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art has announced renovation works in the south wing of Exhibition Centre WeeGee that will take its second-floor galleries out of use from November 2026. The museum published the notice on 9 October 2026. Several long-running displays are affected. Bryk & Wirkkala Visible Storage and the exhibition "Draped – Art of Printed Fabrics" close on 1 November, while the Mauri Kunnas exhibition stays open until 15 November. The museum describes the works as regular maintenance of the wing rather than a redevelopment. According to the announcement, the renovated second floor will reopen in summer 2027 with a refreshed presentation marking ten years of the Bryk & Wirkkala Visible Storage, the glass-walled concept that lets visitors see into the museum's reserves. The Visible Storage holds work by the designer couple Rut Bryk and Tapio Wirkkala, and the anniversary update is expected to rethink how the collection is displayed. The closure trims EMMA's public offer through the winter season, leaving a reduced footprint until the summer reopening. EMMA shares the WeeGee building in Tapiola with other Espoo museums, including the city museum and a toy museum, and routinely rotates its collection displays, so a maintenance window of this kind is operationally normal. The museum says regular upkeep of the south wing is the reason for the works. For visitors planning winter trips, the practical effect is that the second floor — home to the collection displays rather than the temporary exhibitions — will be off limits for roughly half a year.
