CULTURED Launches Art Arena Issue on the Intersection of Art and Sport
CULTURED has published the inaugural Art Arena x CULTURED special issue, guest-edited by Leah Faye Cooper, exploring the relationship between art and sport with women artists and athletes at its centre. Contributors include Sadie Barnette, Mickalene Thomas, Sheree Hovsepian and Paige Bueckers.

CULTURED has published the first Art Arena x CULTURED special issue, a collaboration exploring what the magazines call the historical, inextricable and ever-growing relationship between art and sport. Guest-edited by Leah Faye Cooper alongside editor-in-chief Sarah Harrelson, the issue places women artists and athletes at its centre, in line with Art Arena's founding mission. The pages move between art-world figures and sporting champions: New York Giants and Gotham FC co-owner Emily Tisch Sussman's art collection is profiled, while WNBA star Paige Bueckers appears in conversation with multidisciplinary artist Sadie Barnette. Contributors include stylist Andrew Gelwicks, writer Jazmine Hughes and photographer Naima Green, and the cover story marks a milestone — Sheree Hovsepian's first editorial, an intimate study of skiing legend Lindsey Vonn, shot behind the scenes by photographer Jorge Marron. Art Arena was founded by Work of Art Holdings in collaboration with Mickalene Thomas and Lindsay Kagawa Colas as a media and experiential platform connecting art and sport, with women at its centre. Its stated method — storytelling, live cultural experiences and creative collaborations — is meant to make visible the people shaping both fields. The issue itself is only one expression of that project: the platform plans conversations and long-form editorial, gatherings around major moments in art and sports, artist-athlete collaborations, public art and community partnerships. The shared language of the two fields, as the editors frame it, is discipline, imagination, vulnerability, ambition and the willingness to push beyond what already exists. Whether art-meets-sport editorial can sustain itself beyond the inaugural splash will depend on whether the collaborations deepen beyond the pages, but the debut signals CULTURED's bet that the cultural territory between the gallery and the stadium is fertile ground.
