Christie's to Channel Frieze Week Sale Proceeds to Climate Charities Again
Christie's is reviving its Artists for Climate Action initiative during its 20th/21st Century Evening Sale on 14-15 October, with donated works by Igshaan Adams and Patricia Leite raising funds for Gallery Climate Coalition and ClientEarth.
Christie's is bringing back Artists for Climate Action for Frieze Week, teaming up with the climate charities Gallery Climate Coalition and ClientEarth during its 20th and 21st Century Evening Sale in London on 14 and 15 October. The announcement, reported on 2 October 2026, marks the second edition of an initiative that began in 2021. Two artists are donating works to the auction. Igshaan Adams will contribute The certainty of being a rose (ii), a 2026 sculpture made of beads, thread and textile, estimated at 60,000 to 80,000 pounds. Patricia Leite will donate Brilhante, also from 2026, estimated at 20,000 to 30,000 pounds. The proceeds will be split between the two partner organisations. ClientEarth will use its share to support strategic legal action on environmental issues, while the Gallery Climate Coalition will fund tools, resources and research aimed at credible environmental action across the visual arts. The coalition works with galleries, auction houses and artists to cut the art world's carbon footprint, and its partnership with a major saleroom during one of the busiest weeks of the London art calendar gives the campaign its most prominent platform yet. The initiative arrives as the art market faces growing scrutiny of its environmental impact, from the carbon cost of art fairs and international shipping to the energy demands of museum buildings. By embedding charitable lots within a flagship evening sale rather than staging a standalone benefit auction, Christie's is betting that Frieze Week bidders will pay a premium for works whose proceeds support the climate cause.
