German artist Anne Imhof is staging one of her signature performance-driven exhibitions at Tai Kwun in Hong Kong. 'House of Swans' brings together large-scale installations, video, drawings, paintings and bronze reliefs, with adapted performances by dancers from Hong Kong Ballet taking place on selected weekends through October and November 2026. Imhof works by pairing contrasting elements rather than a single narrative, setting conditions in which events can unfold, and the show leads visitors through imagery suspended between figuration and abstraction. The performances animate the show's scenography with a central refrain from a new ballet conceived by Imhof. It follows a young heroine seeking to reclaim her power, agency and voice as a woman, navigating love, personal conviction and duty to her family. Dancers move between the galleries on the third floor at scheduled times, translating the exhibition's imagery of suspended states — between figuration and abstraction, contingency and control — into bodily presence. The production was developed with Devon Teuscher, Michael De La Nuez, Remy Young, Toon Lobach, Daniil Simkin and Eliza Douglas, alongside Qingxin Wang, Ryo Kato, Gouta Seki and the Hong Kong Ballet corps de ballet. The original score was commissioned from composer Jacob Madden, developed in close collaboration with Imhof, with additional contributions from Ville Haimala, Eliza Douglas, Luke Hulsmann and Levi Strasser. Performances run on 10, 11, 24, 25 and 31 October and on 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 November, at 2:30pm to 3:15pm and 3:45pm to 4:30pm. Tickets cost HK$50, with concessions at HK$40 and a four-visit multi-entry pass at HK$90; children aged four and under enter free. Tickets are available online through art-mate.
