Hong Kong's government has announced the next board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, the statutory body that plans and runs the city's flagship arts quarter. Twelve non-official members will serve a two-year term from 23 October 2026 to 22 October 2028. The appointees span arts and culture, tourism, engineering, business and finance, law and community service — the mix of expertise the government says the board needs to oversee the district's development and daily operation. Two names are new to the board: Cleresa Wong Pie-yue and Cliff Zhang Kun. The government thanked the two outgoing members, Andy Hei Kao-chiang and Yolanda Ng Yuen-ting, for their service. The board is the authority's governing and executive body under the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority Ordinance, responsible for everything from the planning of new venues to the maintenance of the arts facilities already open on the harbourfront site. Its membership is appointed by the Chief Executive, with the secretaries for culture, development and financial services sitting alongside the non-official members. The announcement lands as the district prepares for a significant next chapter: the WestK Performing Arts Centre is due to open in 2027, and the authority has just reported a widened deficit of HK$998 million for 2025/26, driven largely by preparations for the new venue. The twelve non-official members are Abraham Chan Lok-shung, Vincent Cheng Wing-shun, Roy Chung Chi-ping, Benjamin Hung Pi-cheng, Leo Kung Lin-cheng, Liu Che-ning, Pang Yiu-kai, Paulo Pong Kin-yee, Cleresa Wong Pie-yue, Anthony Wu Ting-yuk, Catherine Yen Kai-shun and Cliff Zhang Kun. A spokesman for the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau said the government looked forward to working closely with the board as it steers the district through its next phase of growth.
