White Cube has announced an online exhibition devoted to the lithographs of Japanese artist Minoru Nomata, spanning the decade from 1988 to 1998. Titled "Minoru Nomata: Lithographs 1988–1998," the show will be presented entirely on the gallery's website, on view from 10 November 2026 through 2 February 2027. The exhibition focuses on historic hand-finished lithographs, a body of printed work the gallery says has not been brought together in this form before.
Nomata, who was born and raised in Shinagawa, Tokyo, builds imagined worlds that stay rooted in a familiar visual language of construction. The forms of building sites and urban structures observed around his childhood home became the hallmarks of his painting: towers, scaffolds and architectural fragments rendered with a shared experience of collective memory, holding a dialogue between construction and ruin, the manmade and the natural. The lithographs in this survey translate that vocabulary into print, carrying the same tension between order and collapse.
The online-only format continues White Cube's programme of digital presentations alongside its physical spaces in London, Paris, New York, Seoul and Hong Kong. With printed works of this kind rarely shown at such length in one place, the survey gives collectors and researchers a concentrated look at a facet of Nomata's practice that sits behind his better-known paintings.
The announcement arrives alongside a birthday note from the gallery celebrating the artist, underscoring the close working relationship between Nomata and White Cube. Full details of the works on view are listed on the gallery's exhibitions page.
