Von Bartha Basel opens two solo shows: Terry Haggerty's Headroom and Landon Metz
Von Bartha in Basel has opened two concurrent solo exhibitions, Terry Haggerty's Headroom and a new presentation by Landon Metz, both running 5 November 2026 to 8 January 2027.
Von Bartha in Basel opened two solo exhibitions on 5 November 2026: Headroom, by Terry Haggerty, and a new presentation by Landon Metz. Both run until 8 January 2027, giving the gallery's Basel space over to two painters working with abstraction from very different directions.
The pairing is characteristic of von Bartha, a gallery founded in Basel in 1970 that works across generations, placing modern and contemporary art in dialogue. It began as Gallery Minimax, founded by Margareta and Miklos von Bartha, and took its current name five years later. The gallery became known for championing the Argentinian groups Arte Concreto and Arte Madi, bringing their work to Switzerland for the first time.
Von Bartha presented its first independent booth at Art Basel in 1978, and has been part of the fair's story ever since. In 2008 it opened a second Basel space at Kannenfeldplatz, in a former garage offering more than 800 square metres of exhibition space, and it now also operates a space in Copenhagen.
The two November openings continue that long-running programme in the gallery's home city. Haggerty's Headroom and Metz's new presentation run side by side through the winter, two solo shows under one roof at a gallery that has been staging them in Basel for more than five decades.
The gallery's programme runs across two spaces, in Basel and Copenhagen, and has always mixed generations, placing established names alongside younger artists. That breadth is visible in the November pairing: two solo presentations opening on the same night, each given its own room, in a gallery that has been working this way in Basel since the early 1970s.
