The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is temporarily closing several collection galleries as construction begins on McGlothlin Wing II, the museum's expansion project running into 2029. The American art collection, the Paul and Rachel Mellon Collection of European art, and the African, Indigenous American, mid-to-late-twentieth-century and Pre-Columbian galleries are going off view. Visitors have a last chance to see works including Degas's Little Dancer before storage. The 21st Century gallery closes after the Virginia Watercolor Society exhibition, which opened September 5. The closures set the stage for the November 14 opening of The Impressionist Revolution from the Dallas Museum of Art.
