Vienna Art Week has announced the programme for its 22nd edition, running from 6 to 13 November 2026 under the motto "Navigating Angst". The citywide festival, founded in 2005 and now an established fixture of the Viennese art calendar, will offer more than 100 events across the city, all with free admission.

The theme takes the pervasive sense of anxiety as its starting point, asking how artists translate fear into images, rooms and actions, and how art might help navigate turbulent times. Under the title "HOUSE OF NAVIGATING ANGST", the central exhibition at the festival headquarters in Vienna's 15th district presents works by around 30 artists approaching the feeling of anxiety from different directions.

Fifty Viennese artists were selected by a specialist jury to open their studio doors to the public during the Open Studio Days. The jury included Fanny Hauser, Ruba Katrib, Isin Önol, Beatriz Ortega Botas, Robert Punkenhofer and Anne Zühlke, reflecting the international scope of the city's scene.

The programme extends beyond exhibitions. Bulgarian political scientist Ivan Krastev will deliver the keynote on the fragility of the political order, while a discussion with State Secretary Sepp Schellhorn, MuseumsQuartier director Bettina Leidl and Ukrainian cultural workers takes up the protection of art in wartime and under threatened democratic systems. Themed tours by Simon Nagy and Gerald Straub will guide visitors through the city centre.

Uncounted further openings, talks, performances and formats round out the week, making the edition one of the largest in the festival's history. For collectors and curators finishing with Frieze in London, the November dates position Vienna as the next stop on the autumn circuit.
