The Vancouver Art Gallery Association Board of Trustees has announced the permanent appointment of Eva Respini and Sirish Rao as Co-CEOs, confirming a dual leadership model designed to advance the gallery's artistic ambition, operational resilience and global reach. The pair have led the institution on an interim basis since March 2025, and the board's decision reflects confidence in their stewardship over the past year. Under the arrangement, Respini will serve as Co-CEO and Chief Curator, leading the gallery's artistic vision — including exhibition strategy, collection development, curatorial partnerships and the new building project. Rao will serve as Co-CEO and Executive Director, overseeing operations, earned revenue and finance, alongside community outreach, institutional partnerships and interdisciplinary programming such as the Art of Wellbeing Lab and the Centre for Global Asias. Board chair Jon Stovell credited the two with leadership distinguished by shared purpose, noting that they bring different but deeply complementary perspectives. The governance and people committee evaluated organisational performance and sought input from staff, donors, artists, community leaders and advisors before recommending the appointments. During the interim period, the gallery says it strengthened its financial position and deepened its commitment to artists and community. Respini arrived at the gallery after serving as deputy director and chief curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, and previously spent more than a decade as a curator in the photography department at New York's Museum of Modern Art. The appointments come as the gallery charts a renewed vision for its future, including its long-discussed new building.
