Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone has brought 'the sun and the mountain' to Istanbul, his first solo exhibition in the Turkish city, presented by Dirimart, the gallery announced on October 13. The show pairs the artist's brightly colored stone sculptures with a series of watercolours depicting sunrises and sunsets.

The exhibition is on view at Dirimart's Beyoğlu space from September 2 through November 8. Its combination of monumental stone forms in saturated, unnatural hues with delicate watercolor skies sets up a contrast between the geological and the atmospheric — materials that endure against light that passes. The stone works carry the rough-hewn tension that has defined much of Rondinone's recent sculpture, while the sunrise and sunset watercolours revisit a long-standing motif in his practice.

Dirimart, founded in Istanbul and now operating a London space in Mayfair alongside its two Istanbul venues in Dolapdere and Pera, framed the presentation under the banner 'The mountain, the sun, and time' — a title linking the works to cycles of nature and duration.

Rondinone is among the best-known Swiss artists working internationally, with a practice spanning sculpture, painting, drawing, photography and large-scale installation. His roadside sculpture 'Seven Magic Mountains' near Las Vegas has become a landmark of contemporary public art, and his work has been shown in museums and galleries across Europe, the United States and Asia.

The Istanbul show extends a busy period for the artist, whose work continues to circulate between institutional and commercial contexts. For Dirimart, the exhibition underscores a program of bringing internationally established names to Turkish audiences alongside its roster of local artists.
