Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, known as TOP Museum, has opened 'Duet: Asian Contemporary', a group exhibition that brings together six practitioners from Japan and China. The show runs from 30 September 2026 through 17 January 2027, positioning photography and lens-based work as a meeting point between two of Asia's most active art scenes. The participating artists are Toshiya Murakoshi, Fumiko Imano and Sui Taca from Japan, alongside Wang Tuo, Luo Yang and Jiang Pengyi from China. The roster leans heavily on photographic practice: Murakoshi is known for quiet, meditative landscapes; Imano for long-running self-portrait series; Luo Yang for her direct, much-circulated portraits of young Chinese women; and Jiang Pengyi for experimental, materially inventive camera work. Sui Taca works with constructed digital imagery, while Wang Tuo brings a moving-image and interdisciplinary dimension. The 'duet' framing suggests dialogue and pairing across the national divide rather than a simple survey hang. For TOP Museum, the exhibition fits a long-standing interest in how photography circulates across Asia. Located in Ebisu Garden Place, the museum is Japan's principal public institution devoted to photography and moving image, and its autumn programming often turns outward to regional exchange. A two-country, six-artist format is compact enough to give each participant room while allowing curatorial pairings to emerge between works. The show also lands at a moment when cultural exchange between Japan and China is being rebuilt through museum programming. Running through the winter holidays, it gives Tokyo audiences several months to encounter work that, while geographically close, is rarely shown together under one roof.
