Dom Art Gallery, the commercial arm of Dubai private cultural institution Dom Art Projects, marked its first international fair appearance with a solo presentation by Kirill Makarov (b. 1988) at Tokyo Gendai, which ran 10–13 September 2026 at Pacifico Yokohama. Makarov's paintings and multimedia works weave traditional figurative techniques together with ultraviolet printing, augmented reality and game-derived imagery, exploring how images are constructed and perceived in a post-digital world. Chief curator and co-founder Alisa Bagdonaite described Tokyo Gendai as a fair that shares the gallery's interest in creating new contexts for contemporary practice and exchange across geographies. The gallery, which represents emerging and mid-career artists with a focus on underrepresented practices, opened its Dubai space with a solo exhibition by Japanese artist Michiko Tsuda, making the Tokyo presentation a continuation of that cross-cultural dialogue. Looking ahead, Dom Art Gallery will present Agony in the Garden (2026), a new sculpture by Elena Nemkova at Frieze Sculpture in London, supported by the Mtec Bursary awarded to the gallery and the artist.
