TAEX, founded in London in 2020 as both a contemporary art gallery and a curated digital-art platform, has opened its first permanent gallery space in Monaco. The new venue sits in the Mareterra waterfront district, inside the Le Renzo building designed by Renzo Piano — an address that signals the gallery's ambitions in one of Europe's densest concentrations of collectors. The inaugural exhibition is Testing Ground, a solo presentation by the Paris-based conceptual artist Kevin Abosch, on view through November 30. Abosch works in what he terms synthetic photography: images generated through computational processes that retain the visual language of photography while depicting places that do not exist. The show includes works from his Ethical Work series, first presented at Paris Photo 2025, alongside a rare 2010 piece, Potato #345, that predates his turn toward computation. TAEX founder Inna Bazhenova has spent the past several years building the gallery's presence at major fairs — Art Basel, Paris Photo, ART SG, and Tokyo Gendai — alongside collaborations with artists including Marina Abramović. In 2025 the gallery staged presentations around the Monaco Grand Prix and artmonte-carlo, making the principality a natural choice for a permanent base. The opening reflects a wider pattern in the art market's geography: digital and new-media practices, once confined to online platforms and fair booths, are acquiring the same brick-and-mortar infrastructure as traditional contemporary galleries. For Monaco, which has been cultivating its cultural profile beyond the casino and the yacht show, a gallery dedicated in part to digital art is a conspicuous addition.
