Sydney Contemporary's Tenth Edition Draws Record 26,813 Visitors
Sydney Contemporary's 10th edition welcomed a record 26,813 visitors to Carriageworks from 3–6 September, with more than 100 exhibitors presenting work by over 500 artists.

Presented in partnership with principal partner MA Financial Group, the 2026 edition of Sydney Contemporary was the best attended in the fair's history, with 19 percent of visitors travelling from outside Sydney. Fair director Zoe Paulsen said the milestone edition felt bigger than ever, while founder and co-owner Tim Etchells described the fair as Australasia's premier event for contemporary art. The fair presented its largest Installation program to date, curated by José Da Silva with 17 ambitious projects — two extending beyond Carriageworks to Sydney Fish Market and Pier Pavilion at Barangaroo — plus a new Art + Dine program taking art-inspired conversations and bespoke cocktails into the city's bars and restaurants. More than 100 exhibitors from Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, Asia and the United Kingdom showed work by 500-plus artists from 33 countries across the Galleries, Futures, Works on Paper and returning Photo Sydney sectors. The MA Art Prize, increased to $25,000 for 2026, went to Australian painter Renée Estée. Since its 2013 inaugural edition, Sydney Contemporary has attracted more than 276,000 visitors and recorded over $154 million in art sales, reinforcing its position as the pre-eminent meeting place for the art market in Australasia.
