Silverlens brings seven artists to Davao for first-time group show 'Untethered'
Silverlens presents 'Untethered', a group exhibition featuring Catalina Africa, Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan, Is Jumalon, Pow Martinez, Bernardo Pacquing and MM Yu, at dusitD2 Davao from October 2 to 4 — the first time the artists converge in the city.
Silverlens will present the group exhibition 'Untethered' at dusitD2 Davao from October 2 to 4, 2026, bringing together contemporary artists Catalina Africa, Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan, Is Jumalon, Pow Martinez, Bernardo Pacquing and MM Yu. The three-day presentation marks the first time these artists have converged in Davao, one of the Philippines' fastest-growing cultural centres. The lineup reads as a cross-section of the gallery's programme, spanning painting, mixed media and object-based practice. Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan are known for large-scale installations that assemble the textures of migration and memory, while Pow Martinez and MM Yu work across the painting and photography traditions that have defined much recent Philippine contemporary art. Together, the selection gives Davao audiences a concentrated view of the practices Silverlens has championed across its Manila and New York spaces. The short run format reflects a growing pattern in the Philippine art world: established galleries staging focused presentations outside the capital, meeting audiences where new collector and institutional interest is forming rather than waiting for it to travel to Manila. For Davao, the exhibition is a marker of the city's arrival as a destination for serious contemporary programming. For Silverlens, it extends a decentralising strategy that has already seen the gallery open a New York outpost, using compact, time-limited shows to test and build audiences in cities whose art scenes are expanding faster than their infrastructure. The convergence is notable for what it suggests about the gallery's ambitions beyond its two permanent spaces. By assembling seven artists across different generations and media for a three-day encounter in Davao, Silverlens is testing whether the Philippine art market's growth can sustain a genuinely multi-city ecology, with Davao as its southern anchor.
