Three artists explore connection and constraint in London show Bound
Secteur Privé in London presents Bound, a group exhibition bringing together Sonia Navarro, Soojin Choi and Maliha Abidi on themes of connection, memory and kinship, on view through 4 November 2026.
London gallery Secteur Privé has opened Bound, an autumn group exhibition staged in its Marylebone townhouse that brings together three artists of different generations and geographies around a shared inquiry: how people stay connected to one another, physically and conceptually. The show features Spanish artist Sonia Navarro, South Korean-born, United States-based sculptor Soojin Choi, and Pakistani American artist Maliha Abidi, alongside design pieces by longtime gallery collaborator Mark Brazier-Jones. Navarro contributes monumental woven textiles made from esparto fibre, a material she learned to work with from her grandmothers. Her large-scale pieces treat weaving as both craft and metaphor, turning individual strands into durable structures that, in the artist's framing, carry memory across generations. The work insists on the strength of binds that are made by hand. Choi works in stoneware, sculpting pairs of entangled figures that appear to defy gravity, reinforced with nylon thread and marked with visible drips and gestural lines. Where Navarro's work celebrates the durability of connection, Choi explores its murkier side: the line between support and strain, and what happens when holding on becomes complicated. Abidi rounds out the trio with new paintings and installations centred on the braid, a motif drawn from childhood memories of having her hair oiled and plaited by her aunt and grandmother. In her work the braid becomes a figure for inherited care and female kinship, as well as a wider symbol of identity and resistance, its interlocking structure suggesting constraint as much as closeness. Interwoven through the exhibition are Brazier-Jones's sculptural lighting pieces, including his String Theory chandelier of interlocking metal links, which extend the show's thematic concerns into design. Staged in a townhouse rather than a white cube, Bound treats the domestic setting as part of its thesis, arguing that connection is felt as much as seen. The exhibition runs through 4 November 2026.
