Salon 94 Plants a Flag in Paris With a Permanent Space Opening During Art Basel Week
Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn's New York gallery Salon 94 will open a permanent Paris space on October 18, facing the Jardin du Palais Royal, launching with a solo exhibition by Deborah Roberts timed to Art Basel Paris.

New York's Salon 94 is crossing the Atlantic. The gallery founded by Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn will open a permanent space in Paris on October 18, deliberately timed to the week of Art Basel Paris, when the art world's attention pivots from London to the French capital. The 323-square-foot room sits at 30 Galerie de Montpensier, facing the Jardin du Palais Royal — a historic arcade address in the first arrondissement that puts the gallery within walking distance of the Louvre and the fair crowds. The inaugural exhibition will be a solo presentation of Deborah Roberts, the Austin-based artist known for her collage portraits that examine Black girlhood, beauty standards, and American identity. The show runs through November 28. Leading the Paris operation is Fabienne Stephan, the gallery's European director, who said that artists themselves drove the decision to establish a permanent foothold in the city. The move reflects a broader pattern of American galleries deepening their European presence just as Paris consolidates its position as a second capital of the art market. With Art Basel Paris drawing collectors fresh from Frieze London, a permanent Paris room gives Salon 94 a year-round platform in Europe rather than a pop-up timed to fair week. The gallery has been expanding its footprint in recent years, including its large Upper East Side headquarters, and the Paris space extends that growth into one of the market's most competitive cities. For Paris, the arrival of another established New York gallery underscores how the city's art scene has benefited from the post-Brexit redistribution of the European art trade. Galleries that once treated Paris as a fair-week stop are increasingly treating it as a second home.
