Rosalie Werthefrongel Takes Over KÖNIG GALERIE's St. Agnes Chapel With 'INS BLAU' From November 13
KÖNIG GALERIE presents 'INS BLAU', the second exhibition by Rosalie Werthefrongel with the gallery, in the Chapel of St. Agnes in Berlin, running 13 November 2026 to 21 January 2027 with an opening on 12 November.
KÖNIG GALERIE will present 'INS BLAU', the second exhibition by Rosalie Werthefrongel with the gallery, in the Chapel of St. Agnes at Alexandrinenstrasse 118–121 in Berlin. The exhibition runs from 13 November 2026 to 21 January 2027, with an opening on 12 November from 6 to 8 pm.
Werthefrongel's paintings transform everyday objects into imagined scenes, moving between still life, stage scenery and imaginary landscapes. Through layers of painting and drawing she builds complex pictorial spaces that explore the relationship between reality and representation. The featured work, 'Mein rechter, rechter Platz ist frei' (2026), is a 120 by 150 cm canvas in oil, acrylic and coloured pencil.
Born in 1993 in Friedberg, Germany, Werthefrongel studied painting and graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, graduating in 2026. From 2019 to 2023 she studied in Karin Kneffel's class, then received an Erasmus+ scholarship for painting and animation under Judith Eisler at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, completed a guest semester with Cornelius Völker at the Kunstakademie Münster, and has been a master student of Thomas Eggerer in Munich since 2025.
The chapel setting at St. Agnes — the monumental former Brutalist church that has housed the gallery since 2015 — gives the young painter's second gallery exhibition a distinctly institutional scale, and suits work that already plays between stage scenery and imagined landscapes. Werthefrongel's pictures ask the viewer to look twice: objects that seem familiar dissolve into painted apparitions, and solid-seeming surfaces turn out to be built from drawing and thin layers of colour.
KÖNIG GALERIE, founded in Berlin in 2002, represents around thirty international artists and participates in fairs including Art Basel, Frieze and FIAC.
