Artsy has published an editorial feature on Brooklyn-based painter Robin Feld under the title Captured Brushstroke, drawing attention to a new solo exhibition at The Painting Center in New York that the platform lists as opening soon. The piece continues Artsy's regular editorial coverage of working artists whose shows are tracked on its gallery listings. Feld, who studied at the High School of Music and Art, took a BFA at the City College of New York and trained at the Art Students League, has built a practice around the energies of Prospect Park, near her Brooklyn home. Her paintings typically begin from photographs and move toward nonobjective, nature-inflected compositions that acknowledge the abstract expressionism of the 1950s while pursuing a contemporary landscape vision. The Painting Center has shown Feld repeatedly: the 2021 solo Energized gathered fifteen oil paintings in three related series, and the 2023 exhibition Making Tracks presented eleven newer canvases. Her work has also appeared at Drawing Rooms in Jersey City, Kent State University, Curate NYC, Art Fair 14C and the Monmouth Museum, and works such as the 2019 Yellow Zoom and the 2023 Ethereal are listed through the gallery. Critics have described Feld's approach as an investigation of nature through the record of the painter's own actions — a mix of observed actuality and gestural abstraction, in which the crisscrossing lines, tangles and geometry found in the natural world become the structural basis for balancing motion and stillness on the picture plane.
