RM Sotheby's will offer one of the most unusual Ferraris to reach the open market this autumn: the 2022 Daytona SP3 that served as the factory's own press and development car, estimated at £7.5 million to £9.5 million ($10 million to $13 million) in the London sale on October 31. Chassis 277499 carries a 'Vettura Di Sviluppo' plaque between its seats, marking its development-car status.

Completed in June 2022 in left-hand-drive form, the car was specified by Ferrari itself and retained for press duties for nearly three years. It appeared in reviews by Car and Driver, Road & Track, Motor Sport and Top Gear, becoming the example through which many enthusiasts first encountered the model. Ferrari sold it in March 2025 through H R Owen's Ferrari Hatfield operation to its first and only private owner, who registered it in the United Kingdom. The odometer read 2,948 miles at cataloguing.

The car is finished in Giallo Triplo Strato, a triple-layer yellow Ferrari chose itself, with a Rosso Ferrari leather cabin, Alcantara accents and exposed carbon fibre. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 producing 829 horsepower, sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, without turbocharging or hybrid assistance. The SP3 honours Ferrari's first-, second- and third-place finish at the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours and follows the Monza SP1 and SP2 in the Icona series. Customer production numbered 599 cars, plus one Tailor Made example for charity.

What distinguishes this lot is biography: development status, factory specification and documented media use are attached to the chassis number in a way no subsequent owner can recreate. Whether bidders weight that provenance at the estimate's full range will be settled in the saleroom.
