Rachel Garrard Fills KÖNIG GALERIE's Nave with Light-Driven Works in 'Manifestations in the Light'
KÖNIG GALERIE presents 'MANIFESTATIONS IN THE LIGHT', Rachel Garrard's second exhibition with the Berlin gallery, in the Nave of St. Agnes from 13 November 2026 to 24 January 2027, opening 12 November.
KÖNIG GALERIE will present 'MANIFESTATIONS IN THE LIGHT', the second exhibition by Rachel Garrard with the gallery, in the Nave of St. Agnes at Alexandrinenstrasse 118–121 in Berlin. The exhibition runs from 13 November 2026 to 24 January 2027, with an opening on 12 November from 6 to 8 pm.
Garrard, born in 1984 and working between New York and Mexico, integrates painting, sculpture, sound, installation, and video into a practice that treats the boundary between the physical and the ephemeral as porous and shifting. She composes her paintings from natural substances — quartz, ash, and rock powder pigments she collects and hand-grinds herself — applied in fine layers and translucent washes to raw linen. The pigment becomes, in the gallery's description, a physical register of place: a palimpsest of past experience and a portal to a metaphysical landscape of memory. The process binds the works to specific geographies, since each pigment carries the material history of where it was gathered.
The show's Nave setting amplifies that register. The former church's soaring interior is a natural fit for work that plays with light, substance, and atmosphere, and the exhibition's title points to light itself as a medium rather than merely a condition of viewing. Among the featured works is 'Refracted Arc' (2025), a large rock-powder pigment painting on linen whose hand-ground colour shifts with the changing daylight of the gallery.
Garrard trained at Central Saint Martins in London and has shown widely in the United States and Europe. This is her second presentation with König, and the winter dates position the exhibition as the gallery's closing statement of its 2026 programme.
