Prado opens its doors for a free late-night visit with live music and broadcasts
Madrid's Museo del Prado held a free special evening opening, 'A Night in the Prado Museum,' on 3 October 2026 from 8:30 to 11:30 pm, with live Radio 3 broadcasts, Samsung multimedia displays and free access tied to the closing of its Valeriano D. Becquer exhibition.

The Museo del Prado in Madrid hosted a special free evening opening on 3 October 2026, inviting visitors into the museum from 8:30 to 11:30 in the evening under the banner "A Night in the Prado Museum." Entry was free with advance reservation through the Jeronimos entrance, and the programme combined open galleries with live music, broadcasting and digital displays. The night coincided with the closing weekend of the exhibition "Valeriano D. Becquer: The Genre Paintings," which had been on view since 13 July and featured eight works by the nineteenth-century Spanish painter associated with Noviercas. Visitors could move freely through both the permanent collection and the Becquer show, making the evening a last chance to see a compact exhibition devoted to a lesser-known figure in Spanish genre painting. Technology partner Samsung installed large-format reproductions, QR codes and information screens around the building, while national broadcaster Radio 3 transmitted live from the museum. The musical line-up included performers such as Amparanoia, Aiko el Grupo, Menta, Nina Polaca, Carolina Durante and Shego, alongside a performance staged around Becquer himself, blending contemporary acts with the museum's historic setting. The initiative was organised jointly by the Community of Madrid and Samsung as part of an ongoing project to stage special openings at the Prado. Free late-night access has become a recurring tool for European museums seeking younger and more diverse audiences, and the Prado's edition - timed to the farewell of a temporary show - turned a routine closing into a citywide cultural event.
