Pilar Corrias devotes its Art Basel Paris 2026 booth to a solo presentation of new work by Christina Quarles, bringing fresh paintings and charcoal works on paper to Booth 0.B50 at the Grand Palais. The fair's VIP preview runs 21-22 October, with public days following from 23 to 25 October.

The centrepiece is a monumental triptych, Stay Up Late to See the Light/ Stain' Up Late to See Tha Light/ Staid Up Late to See Tha Light (2026), whose three stretched panels will be rehung in different orientations on each day of the fair. The rotating hang means the painting never settles into a single image: each reconfiguration reveals a new composition, and visitors returning on a later day will meet a different work from the one they saw before.

Around it, the booth pairs further large-scale paintings with a series of smaller charcoal drawings. Crystal Town (2026), in acrylic on canvas at 182.9 x 218.4 cm, anchors the painted works, while Yew Kno Yew Can Follow My Voice (2026), a charcoal on paper measuring 114.3 x 83.8 cm, represents the works on paper. Quarles's interlocking, gravity-defying figures run through both bodies of work, probing how bodies occupy space when the ground keeps shifting.

Quarles designed the booth herself, splitting the space with a band of matte black shadow set against the daylight that pours through the Grand Palais skylights. The gallery frames the new body of work as a study in fragility and resilience held in delicate, sometimes tense balance — a balance the ever-changing triptych literalises, remaking itself daily for the run of the fair.
