Oscar Murillo Returns to David Zwirner Paris With 'Unfinished thinking' Paintings and Social Maps
David Zwirner Paris presents 'Unfinished thinking: Paintings and Social Maps', a solo exhibition of paintings by Oscar Murillo running 19 October to 19 December 2026 at 108 rue Vieille du Temple.
David Zwirner will open 'Unfinished thinking: Paintings and Social Maps' at its Paris gallery on 19 October 2026, a solo exhibition of paintings by Oscar Murillo on view through 19 December at 108 rue Vieille du Temple. The announcement came via the gallery's Instagram on 13 October.
Murillo accompanies the show with a characteristically breathless text that reads like a score for the work: speed of flight, the sea, geographies and terrain; labour and repetition; public and profound statements buried in love, protest and an emoji; a sea of marks and condensed time. Scars of people as well as terrain, he writes, run through the paintings — surface residue, euphoric emotion, colour, line — naming Colombia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, the Philippines, the UK, Poland and Germany among the geographies the collective field of spirits traverses.
Born in 1986 in La Paila, Colombia, where he still lives and works, Murillo is one of the most internationally visible painters of his generation and was among the four artists to win the 2019 Turner Prize. His practice spans painting, installation and participatory projects, including 'The flooded garden', which filled Tate Modern's Turbine Hall in 2024, and the two-part exhibition 'Collective Osmosis' at DAS MINSK Kunsthaus and Museum Barberini in Potsdam earlier this year.
The Paris show follows his 2024 exhibition 'A balancing act between collapse and spirit' at the same gallery, and continues a run of recent solo presentations that also includes WIELS in Brussels, Serralves in Porto, Kunsthalle Wien and the 36th São Paulo Bienal.
