The Consulate General of Italy in Bengaluru has partnered with the National Gallery of Modern Art and the Ministry of Culture to present One Mother, Many Mother Tongues, an exhibition exploring the shared artistic heritage of Italy and India through the theme of motherhood. Co-curated by academic Naman Ahuja and Andrea Anastasio, the show places Botticelli's Madonna and Child (1490), on its Indian debut, alongside schist, sandstone, terracotta and tufa sculptures from ancient Indian and Italian traditions, including Etruscan Mater Matuta figures and Indian matrika and yogini sculptures. The exhibition, which also marks the forthcoming India-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism in 2027, runs until 29 September 2026 at NGMA's Palace Road campus. It follows the painting's earlier display in New Delhi in June 2026, making Bengaluru the second and final confirmed Indian venue.
