The Menil Drawing Institute has handed its walls to Jitish Kallat for the eighth installment of its Wall Drawing Series, the program of large-scale temporary commissions that has become a signature of the Houston institution. The Indian artist's new installation opened on September 10, 2026. Kallat, a leading figure in contemporary Indian art, is known for work that weaves together history, science, philosophy and the cosmic scale of time, often moving between the intimate and the immense. His approach promises a distinctive mark on the series, which treats the museum's architecture itself as a drawing surface. The commission will remain on view through August 8, 2027, giving visitors nearly a year to encounter the ephemeral installation at the Menil's Drawing Institute on Sul Ross Street.
