Mendes Wood DM will show at booth C17 at Art Basel Paris 2026, the fair's third edition at the Grand Palais running 21 to 25 October. The gallery — founded in São Paulo in 2010 and now operating spaces in São Paulo, Brussels, New York and Paris — announced its Paris-week plans in a mailing-list newsletter on 15 October, naming Rosana Paulino, Pol Taburet and Sonia Gomes among the artists it brings to the fair.

Days before the fair opens, the gallery gives its Marais space over to Paulino: "Bloom in the Sunlight, Dream in the Moonlight" opens on Monday 19 October, 5–8pm, at 25 Place des Vosges. The solo extends a decade-long inquiry into how Black women are pictured in Brazil — where Paulino found the available literature almost empty of Black women shown as leading mystical or spiritual figures, while colonial-era imagery of them in servitude or degradation circulated freely. Drawing on the matriarchal cosmologies of Afro-Brazilian rites and religions, she has built a body of drawings, paintings, sculptures and installations that, in her words, asks: "If she doesn't exist, what will happen if we create her?"

The same evening launches Pol Taburet's "Machina Camera", his first edition for Texte zur Kunst. Taburet, a young Paris-based painter whose hallucinatory canvases fuse human and animal forms into spectral figures, contributes a central creature that reads as part living thing, part machine — moving, as the gallery describes it, across richly textured terrain like a fusion of Kafkaesque vermin and a lunar roving vehicle.

The double act underlines the gallery's current momentum in Paris: its Marais branch opened in 2023 in a renovated 18th-century building, and Paulino has become one of its most institutionalised artists, with a current solo, "The time of things", at the gallery's Brussels space. The newsletter also names Sonia Gomes — the Brazilian assemblage artist the gallery's founders first represented in Paris before founding the São Paulo space — in the booth C17 lineup.
