Manila's MCAD pairs its Olafur Eliasson show with a two-day symposium on art and the climate crisis
The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in Manila holds "Transient Landscapes: Art and Climate Narratives" on 15–16 October 2026, a two-day symposium organised around its ongoing Olafur Eliasson exhibition.
The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in Manila is holding a two-day symposium on art and the climate crisis. "Transient Landscapes: Art and Climate Narratives" takes place on 15 and 16 October 2026 at the David M. Consunji Ideation Room at the Atrium @ Benilde Campus, running from 9am to 5pm on both days. It is organised as part of the public programme for the museum's ongoing exhibition "Olafur Eliasson: Your Curious Journey", which runs from 9 July to 15 November 2026.
The symposium examines the flux between human intervention and natural ecosystems, bringing together conservationists, development workers, artists and designers from the Philippines and abroad. Its discussions are structured around three tracks: "Anthropogenic Activity", which looks at human impact on dynamic landscapes; "Ecosystems", which addresses fragility, adaptation and biodiversity; and "Sustainability Practices", which explores artistic and community-led frameworks for the future.
Attendees are expected to gain a deeper grasp of featured projects — their successes as well as their challenges — and to come away better able to visualise the climate crisis and consider actions toward adaptation and mitigation for people and communities.
The event is open to interested participants, with registration priced at 300 pesos for a half day, 1,500 pesos for a full day and 2,000 pesos for the two-day programme; students receive a 500-peso discount on the two-day pass. Registration is handled through an online form linked from the museum's channels, and the symposium is part of a broader push to use exhibitions as platforms for public conversation about urgent social questions.
