Galerie Eva Presenhuber in Zurich is presenting Long Distance Relationship, a solo exhibition by Louisa Gagliardi, with an opening reception on Thursday 12 November 2026 from 6 to 8pm. It is the artist's fifth solo show with the gallery.
Gagliardi makes digital paintings that are printed on PVC and then finished by hand with varnish and nail polish, a combination that gives the works the gloss of a screen and the material presence of an object. The surface is part of the subject: images that began life as pixels end up as things you can stand in front of, their shine catching the light like a phone left face up.
The motifs in the new works range widely, from a hand of cards in Dealer's Choice to a cowlick, a crop circle, a solar eclipse, a baby, truck curtains and slot machines. A slot machine, a baby, a solar eclipse: the images sit side by side without hierarchy, as they would in a feed. Held together, they suggest a world seen at a distance and through glass: luck and chance, the body and the machine, the domestic and the cosmic, all flattened into the same bright plane. Nail polish, a cosmetic rather than an artist's material, is part of the point: the works borrow the finish of the beauty counter as readily as that of the print shop.
The title, Long Distance Relationship, fits a practice built on mediation, on images that travel before they arrive. Gagliardi's paintings are made to be looked at up close and from afar at once, and the show asks what closeness means when so much of what we see reaches us through a screen.
