Halcyon Gallery in London has announced formal representation of actor Johnny Depp as an artist, launching the relationship with the first major UK exhibition of his original artworks. The show opened on 13 October at the gallery's flagship on 148 New Bond Street and runs until 15 November, with free admission daily. The exhibition brings together paintings, sculptures, drawings and collages built up over decades, tracing the evolution of Depp's visual practice. The works draw on personal experience, cultural influences and imagined characters, exploring memory, identity and the space between public persona and private imagination. An official statement from gallery founder and president Paul Green described Depp as a lifelong storyteller whose works show emotional directness and a distinct individual vision. The move follows a substantial commercial track record. Depp's 2022 debut collection with Castle Fine Art, Friends and Heroes, sold out in less than a day, reportedly generating around £3 million from 780 prints sold through the art house's 37 galleries. A follow-up series of four hand-painted portraits of Heath Ledger, Bob Marley, River Phoenix and Hunter S. Thompson pushed his reported total sales across the series beyond $9 million. Depp, known for roles in Pirates of the Caribbean and Edward Scissorhands, recently directed a biopic of painter Amedeo Modigliani and has upcoming films Day Drinker and Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol. His Shanghai exhibition, Figures of the Fringe, runs at MAM Shanghai through 13 December, and a monumental bronze, The Bunnyman, appeared this autumn at Contemporary Istanbul. Halcyon has applied the same free-admission policy to its recent Picasso and Bob Dylan shows.
