Eddie R. Aparicio's exhibition Rubberneckers at Jeffrey Deitch, 18 Wooster Street, New York, gathers work made in the aftermath of the January 2025 Eaton Fire, which destroyed the artist's Los Angeles home. The show includes hand-sewn wall works using the diente de lobo stitch, ongoing Caucho rubber casts of ficus trees, new paintings fragmenting a utility-company logo, amber sculptures encasing objects collected from neighbours, and column works from uprooted street trees. The title borrows the freeway habit of slowing to view accidents from a safe distance as a metaphor for mediated relationships to disaster.
