The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw opens the group exhibition 'Sculpture Beyond The Solid' on 16 October 2026, with a run through 28 February 2027, and the London-based sculptor Jack O'Brien is among its participants. Announced by his gallery on 6 October, the exhibition places O'Brien's work inside one of the defining new museum buildings in Europe, the Thomas Phifer-designed home of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (MSN) on the city's central square. The show is curated by Jagna Lewandowska and Szymon Maliborski. For the exhibition, O'Brien is presenting a new configuration of 'The Reward', the installation first shown at Camden Art Centre in London in 2024. Reconceived for Warsaw, the work extends his ongoing investigation into the sculptural potential of architectural structures, tracing how built forms can be transformed through wrapping, suspension and displacement. His practice draws on found and repurposed objects, consumer materials and industrial vernaculars to stage confrontations between rigid structures, charged with an energy that reads as both playful and precarious. O'Brien's inclusion follows a fast-moving institutional year. His first institutional solo exhibition, 'Cue the Cue', opened at the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover in 2025, and he won the Camden Art Centre Emerging Artist Prize at Frieze London in 2023. Recent group outings include the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven and LUMA Westbau in Zurich, while upcoming commitments include the touring 'British Art Show 10: A Chorus of Strangers' across the UK from 2026 to 2028. The Warsaw presentation positions a distinctive British sculptural voice inside a major European museum programme. The show's line-up of contemporary sculpture, staged across the museum's spacious new galleries, gives O'Brien's reconfigured installation its largest architectural setting to date, testing the work's negotiation of architecture against the building's own monumental minimalism.
