Museum of the City of New York opens new centre devoted to activism
The Museum of the City of New York has inaugurated its Puffin Foundation Center for New York City Activism, opening September 25 with two inaugural exhibitions. 'Raise Your Voice' chronicles 250 years of organising and social movements in the city.
The Museum of the City of New York has opened the Puffin Foundation Center for New York City Activism, the culmination of a multimillion-dollar gift from the nonprofit dedicated to uplifting minority artists and organisations. Opening on September 25, 'Raise Your Voice: New York Activism' is one of two inaugural exhibitions, tracing 250 years of organising, social movements and civic engagement in the city. Curated by Sarah Seidman, the show grows out of its long-running predecessor 'Activist New York' (2014–2026) and is more interactive and hands-on, identifying the ingredients of a successful movement and offering visitors starting points for civic engagement.
