All 46 Prints: Hokusai's Complete Mount Fuji Series Goes on View in Britain for the First Time
Dulwich Picture Gallery's Hokusai: Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji from the Iuchi Collection, 20 October 2026 to 17 January 2027, is the first UK showing of all 46 designs, including a Red Fuji variant never seen in Britain.

London's Dulwich Picture Gallery has opened the first exhibition in the United Kingdom to show the complete set of Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. Hokusai: Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji from the Iuchi Collection runs from 20 October 2026 to 17 January 2027 and brings together all 46 designs in the series: the original 36, plus the 10 the artist added after the prints proved a hit.
The prints come from the Iuchi Collection, held on deposit at the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo. Hokusai made the woodblock series between roughly 1830 and 1833, when he was in his seventies, depicting the sacred mountain from different places, seasons and moments of daily life. He used Prussian blue, a pigment newly imported from Europe, to striking effect. The show includes The Great Wave alongside Red Fuji, in a rare variant the gallery says has never been seen in Britain, plus a blue-toned impression of the same design.
The series has strong market appeal. In March 2024 a complete set sold at Christie's in New York for 3.56 million dollars, an auction record for the artist, topping the previous high of 2.76 million paid in 2023 for a single impression of The Great Wave. The collector Jitendra V. Singh assembled that set over 11 years.
It is a strong moment for Hokusai in Britain: Manchester's Whitworth is also presenting Beneath the Great Wave: Hokusai and Hiroshige through November 15, pairing prints by Hokusai with works by Utagawa Hiroshige around a Great Wave on loan from a private collection.
