The lightsaber Darth Vader wielded in his duels with Luke Skywalker is returning to the auction block. Heritage Auctions will offer the screen-matched hero dueling hilt on 12 November in Dallas as the centrepiece of The Ultimate Star Wars Hollywood/Entertainment Signature Auction, with a $1 million starting bid. The live floor session begins at 1 p.m. Central, with proxy bidding closing ten minutes beforehand and a 25 percent buyer's premium. Heritage identifies the prop as the dueling hilt used by David Prowse, the physical performer behind Vader, and by Olympic fencer turned stuntman Bob Anderson in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983). The 12.5-inch hilt was built from a British M.P.P. Microflash camera flash attachment and reinforced for combat scenes; its wear — a cut section of the upper shroud, a crack near the rear and a partially broken grip — matches production stills from Empire and close-ups in Jedi. The saber arrives with serious auction history. It sold at Propstore in September 2025 for $3,654,000, then a world record for a screen-used Star Wars prop. That record moved to Luke Skywalker's lightsaber from the Cloud City duel, which Heritage sold on 15 July 2026 for $3,750,000, placing father and son's weapons on either side of the record books. More than two dozen lightsaber props feature in the sale, including Boba Fett's screen-matched EE-3 carbine blaster from Empire with a $100,000 starting bid, Obi-Wan Kenobi's and Anakin Skywalker's sabers from Revenge of the Sith, a Yoda puppet hand used by Frank Oz and Anthony Daniels' signed personal third-draft screenplay for the original 1977 Star Wars.
