Palazzo Reale to stage major Giacometti retrospective in 2027
From 25 February to 20 June 2027, Milan's Palazzo Reale will present 'Alberto Giacometti e l'Italia', a retrospective of more than 100 sculptures, paintings and drawings, most on loan from the Fondation Giacometti in Paris.
Developed with the Fondation Giacometti, promoted by the City of Milan – Culture and produced by Palazzo Reale with Marsilio Arte, the exhibition shifts focus from the artist's Parisian career to Italy's role in his training, life and work. Born in Graubünden with Italian as his mother tongue, Giacometti drew on Etruscan and Roman art; highlights include 'Walking Man', 'The Nose' (1949) and 'Bust of a Man (Chiavenna II)' (1964). Curated by Romain Perrin with scholarly advice from Casimiro Di Crescenzo, it also revisits the artist's 1962 Venice Biennale Grand Prize for Sculpture. A catalogue edited by Perrin accompanies the show.
