Galerie Urs Meile opened 'Horsehair takes a long time to burn', a solo exhibition by Swiss artist Rebekka Steiger (b. 1993, Zurich), on view September 10 through October 31, 2026 at Ankerstrasse 3 in Zurich. Developed after a seven-month residency in Beijing that ended in March, the show brings together new paintings and — a first for the artist — six photographs. The horse, a recurring figure in her practice, takes on renewed charge through the Year of the Fire Horse and its associations with energy, independence and restlessness. The photographic series 'Ice and Dust' (2025), shot from a helicopter over the glaciers of the Jungfrau-Aletsch region the day after the Blatten landslide of May 2025, records a landscape whose apparent permanence was already unstable, in dialogue with paintings that begin from a 2021 Kenya safari photograph of vultures around buffalo carcasses.
