Reviewing Nadav Kander's major solo exhibition at Foam in Amsterdam, Nektarianna K. Saliverou reads the four-decade survey — spanning portraits, landscapes and studies of the human form — as an articulation of how photographic images become emblems of existence. Kander's intuition for the 'edge of things', where certainty dissolves into ambiguity, gives works from the Yangtze River banks to the Polygon nuclear test site a shared resonance of transience: shadow, emptiness and silence carry as much weight as the subjects themselves. The exhibition traces threads across landscape, portraiture and still life, inviting reflection on what endures and what fades amid constant global change.
