Experimenter in Kolkata opens three winter solo shows on dreams, grief and Ambedkarite resistance
Kolkata gallery Experimenter has opened three solo exhibitions across its venues: Pallavi Paul's Salt Moon, Vikrant Bhise's Neel Ambar and Bhasha Chakrabarti's Khwab. The shows, which opened in early November 2026, span painting, textiles, film and installation and run into January and February 2027.
The Kolkata gallery Experimenter has opened three solo exhibitions across its venues, bringing together new work by Pallavi Paul, Vikrant Bhise and Bhasha Chakrabarti. The three shows, which opened in the first week of November, run into January and February 2027 and span painting, textiles, film and installation, each artist approaching memory, history and identity from a distinct direction.
At Experimenter Hindustan Road, Pallavi Paul presents Salt Moon, on view from 4 November 2026 to 9 January 2027. The Delhi-based artist, who won the Sharjah Biennial Artist Prize last year, makes her debut with the gallery in a show that recalls the pandemic period and reflects on catastrophes and their aftermath. The installation grew out of a 2023 work of the same name conceived as a graveyard portal of grief, rest and remembrance, populated by grave-like sculptures.
At Experimenter Ballygunge Place, Vikrant Bhise shows Neel Ambar from 4 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, his first solo exhibition in Kolkata and with the gallery. The Mumbai-based painter's dense, intense canvases are charged with activism, drawing on an archive of the Ambedkarite movement. Blue runs through the work as a colour of collective consciousness, while the paintings confront caste and class oppression and the legacy of B. R. Ambedkar and the constitution he helped to shape.
The third show, Bhasha Chakrabarti's Khwab, opens at Experimenter Outpost at the Alipore Museum on 5 November 2026 and continues to 28 February 2027. Khwab, meaning dreams in Urdu and Persian, gathers quilting, painting, film and textiles, including dreamy oil paintings on sheer organza set against kimkhwab brocade panels, the Khwab-o-Khayal and Khwabida series, and Khwab Basera, a group of embroidered and painted pillowcases.
